Andrew and I made a card for my friend’s birthday this summer. He has been in school to be a pilot, so I thought we should make him an airplane card!
I didn’t intend for it to be so barren. Some trees or flowers would have been nice, but we spent enough time on this card as it was.
I was eager to try a cool feature of my die-cutter and its software. Silhouette’s print and cut feature allows me to print something using my printer and then go back and cut it out with the die-cutter. It increases its accuracy by placing registration marks in the corners of the paper before cutting. This allows it to line up the paper in the die-cutter for the most accurate cutting.
So I found clip art of an airplane online and printed it onto white cardstock. I colored the airplanes with colored pencil. Then I put it through the die-cutter. It did a pretty good job. The airplanes were pretty simple and I could have done it by hand without much fuss, but I could see this being very handy with much more complicated shapes.
I kinda regret using two planes, because they are both the same, and one would have been enough.
In Silhouette Studio, I drew some curves which would be the flight paths of the two planes. Then I had it cut them out on the blue paper as perforations. Andrew took some dental floss and weaved it between the perforations, creating fun dotted lines. (We tried white thread first, but it didn’t stand out as well.)
A little stamp on white paper, and now it’s a birthday card. The white paper isn’t glued down except for where the star is attached.
This is really cute!
